The Rutland Arms Hotel in Bakewell is a true gem nestled in the heart of Derbyshire’s Peak District. Notably, the Rutland Arms is linked to the creation of the famous Bakewell Pudding. Around 1860, a cook’s serendipitous mistake led to the invention of this delightful dessert, now synonymous with the town.

There’s also a charming and debated connection to Jane Austen. Some believe she stayed here in 1811 and drew inspiration from the surroundings for “Pride and Prejudice,” with Bakewell and nearby Chatsworth House influencing the novel’s settings.
